Tide gauge location
The measuring system is located on the south west corner of Victory jetty. In the building there is an instrument cabinet with a
pneumatic bubbler system with two full-tide and mid-tide sensors.
The tide gauge is levelled to the tide gauge bench mark supported by Ordnance Survey auxiliary marks.
Sea level pressures and/or elevations from this site are supplied to the following authority:
- Environment Agency, Southern Region
1960 – A Lea gauge was installed over the stilling well in the tide gauge building at Kings Stairs jetty
1991 – The DATARING system was installed with two full-tide bubbler systems
1999 – A new tide gauge site was established on Victory jetty; two full-tide and mid-tide bubblers were installed
2001 – POL data logger installed
